A new study has found something alarming when it comes to the consumption of alcohol in teens. The report said that over 709,000 kids get their liquor from home. Now, this isn’t alarming in itself. After all, there are plenty of parents out there that have liquor at home and they trust their children not to drink it, but the reality is that kids can be sneaky and do the things that they aren’t supposed to do.
The scary thing about this study was that kids are getting their liquor right from the parents. This means that the parents are knowingly supplying them with alcohol. The study didn’t take in to account the kids who are sneaking the liquor from their parents. When you factor that in it is certainly well over a million kids.
An alarming 5.9 percent of children have used alcohol in the past month. While there are some households that make a glass of wine ok with dinner, there are plenty that do not and so kids are just getting their liquor for their own personal enjoyment.
The problem with this issue is that there are plenty of children who start with alcohol and then it leads to worse and more damaging drugs. This also can lead to a pattern of behavior that is difficult for a parent to understand. There are plenty of people out there that are upset about the fact that these kids are doing this and the parents are allowing this.
As a parent the right of responsibility needs to go much further and much deeper than that. You cannot expect that it will be ok to give a child alcohol and that the effects of that will not last a lifetime. The truth is that they will last a lifetime.
The parent has a responsibility to take care of their kids and not enable them in terrible acts. If a parent really cares they will do the right thing.
