The Bad Teen Booze Use

A new study has found something alarming when it comes to the consumption of alcohol in teens. The report said that over 709,000 kids get their liquor from home. Now, this isn’t alarming in itself. After all, there are plenty of parents out there that have liquor at home and they trust their children not to drink it, but the reality is that kids can be sneaky and do the things that they aren’t supposed to do.

The scary thing about this study was that kids are getting their liquor right from the parents. This means that the parents are knowingly supplying them with alcohol. The study didn’t take in to account the kids who are sneaking the liquor from their parents. When you factor that in it is certainly well over a million kids.

An alarming 5.9 percent of children have used alcohol in the past month. While there are some households that make a glass of wine ok with dinner, there are plenty that do not and so kids are just getting their liquor for their own personal enjoyment.

The problem with this issue is that there are plenty of children who start with alcohol and then it leads to worse and more damaging drugs. This also can lead to a pattern of behavior that is difficult for a parent to understand. There are plenty of people out there that are upset about the fact that these kids are doing this and the parents are allowing this.

As a parent the right of responsibility needs to go much further and much deeper than that. You cannot expect that it will be ok to give a child alcohol and that the effects of that will not last a lifetime. The truth is that they will last a lifetime.

The parent has a responsibility to take care of their kids and not enable them in terrible acts. If a parent really cares they will do the right thing.

Getting Back on Track

There are plenty of things that you will have to do when you get through the ugliness of rehab. One of those things is get your life back in order when you get back home. This sounds like a big task and there isn’t often information on where to start. The truth is that you have to make sure you do whatever you can to get things back in an organized fashion.

The start of that is to set up your after care. Your job, your fitness, your life must revolve around the after care program you set up. The next thing that you need to do is to make sure that you have a set after care schedule. You must make sure that you attend all meetings and that you take the first week just to get into the habit of meeting with them.

The next thing you must do is get yourself back to work. The idea is that if you are staying at home all day and you don’t have anything to do you could get pulled into temptation. Getting a job is a great way to get back to your own roots and to feel good about yourself and put your life on a clear schedule. If you are having trouble finding work then you must try and make side work a possibility or temp jobs a possibility as well. There can’t be any room for laziness these days. Don’t waste a second doing what you don’t want to do but don’t waste time waiting for your life to happen.

These things are best for the addict who is interested in making a full recovery. There is nothing better than getting yourself whole again.

The Reality of Tough Love

You hear the idea of tough love a lot. You hear men and women talk about it when it comes to an addict and how to deal with them. You want to make sure that these addicts understand the consequences of what they are doing and if they do not then you are sure to find yourself in a real bind when it comes to effectively getting them help.

Tough love is where you take a firm stance with an addict that forces them to experience a loss while still an addict. It’s about pushing them to that rock bottom. It’s not supposed to be mean but rather it is mean  to try and teach and heal them. For instance, if an addict is bringing drugs into the house and you have caught them several times, the time for tough love is to ask them to leave the home. You might not like the idea of your drug addict child or partner out in the street but at some point you have to ask yourself if they will ever get better if you are always there to pick them up. You have to be smart enough to leave them alone and let them figure it out.

You might also find that they will try to come back home, but you have to set conditions for that tough love. You have to decide that they cannot come back into the house until they have accepted that they need to get treatment. Again, you want them back in the house, but you have to be selfish and think about yourself as you go through the rest of your life. You cannot function well if you are living with an alcoholic or a narcotics user.

The thing you should be pushing for is rehab. If they are willing to go it could be the start of something wonderful for them. That’s what you want from them.

Cell Phone Addiction

A lot of times we tend to classify addiction as something you get from one thing, but not from the other. For instance if someone is glued to their cell phones it’s just something funny, but if someone is glued to their pain pills then it is something more serious and it needs to be dealt with immediately. The reality is that anytime anyone is too attached to one thing there is a big problem and it’s something that needs to be addressed.

Cell phone addiction is no laughing matter. While it might not cost someone there life it doesn’t mean it cant. Many people struggle with the ability to detach themselves with the electronic  equipment they need. So don’t make the same mistake in assuming that just because someone is on their phone all day that it is nothing to get concerned about.

The first thing you need to do is see if it’s a true addiction. The best way to do that is to test to see how deep the addiction goes. It’s important to get to testing the addiction. How does the addict act when they are away from the phone? Does their mood change? Do they act differently?

You have to be mindful of these sorts of things as you move forward. There are plenty of addictions that aren’t always easy to detect. No matter what they are going through you need to do your best to get them the help they need. There are several places on line where you can find places to get the kind of help that you need. There is no question that you need all the help that you can get when it comes defeating an addiction. It doesn’t matter what kind. They all matter and are all serious. So get the help you need.

The Road is a Long Road

Entering treatment for a serious drug addiction is not an easy thing for anyone to go through. There is plenty out there that can make a cringe at the thought of having to go through the grind that is taking care of their severe drug addiction. Here is the things that you have to remember about starting your recovery. Finishing is not an option. It’s the only choice that you have. You must get better, so keep these tings in mind.

The first thing to remember is that getting yourself together is not that easy. It’s going to take a lot of time. What you are about to enter into is a life long process and one that will require work everyday. As you go on you may find that you are able to cope with it easier, but you won’t find that it is ever a cake walk. You have to know that anything worth having is worth working hard for. It’s the reason why you are not giving into your addiction anymore. It’s the easy thing to do. That’s not worth doing at all.

You will have strained relationships with your family and friends. What you were doing when you were in the depth of your addiction you could certainly have hurt many of the people close to you. Now that you are ready to be sober you will want to lean on them, but you have to understand that you are going to be dealing with people who have been scarred and that scarring can take time to heal. So you have to be patient. Let them know you are sorry and that you are going to work on doing whatever you can to repair the situation. Getting clean will not be easy but it’s the best option that you have.
